Kohl's — expect great things

Hospital Statistics

Children’s hospitals cross all diseases, states, religions and ethnicities, working tirelessly to improve health for children. Currently, Kohl’s has partnerships with 160 hospitals around the country.

The statistics listed below show how we support children’s hospitals and the great services they provide to our communities:

  • In 2008, Kohl’s donated nearly $15.1 million to 151 children’s hospitals across the country.
  • 100% of the net profit from the sale of Kohl's Cares for Kids merchandise will be donated to support children's health and education initiatives nationwide.
  • Of the children discharged from children’s hospitals:
  • 58 percent of their care is to children under age six
  • 42 percent were ages 6 and older
  • 42 percent were low income
  • 42 percent were minorities
  • Across the nation, children’s hospitals receive about 2.3 million emergency department visits and 13 million outpatient visits annually. The average children’s hospital provides care in:
  • 296,801 primary and specialty care visits to ambulatory clinics
  • 54,298 emergency department visits
  • 9,135 outpatient surgeries
  • Virtually all children’s hospitals participate in clinical trials and in some type of health services research.
  • One-third of children’s hospitals operate child health research centers. At these cutting-edge institutions, the distance from the research bench to patient bedside is so short that the clinical care improvements can move more rapidly than at ordinary hospitals.
  • Each year, between 20 and 25 percent of children—more than 39,000 each day—will sustain an injury serious enough to require medical attention, missed school and/or bed rest. In fact, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14. In 2003, an estimated 1,500 children died of abuse and neglect (2.00 deaths per 100,000 children). More than 78 percent of children who were killed were younger than 4 years of age, and 10.2 percent were 4 to 7 years of age.
